PRELIMINARY PROCEDURE: Air compressor removed from engine mount bracket,
fuel filters drained, and air compressor oil return hose disconnected
from gear cover (refer to TM 5-3805-262-20); valve cover removed from
1 cylinder head (page 3-60), fuel feed pump removed (page 3-131);
fuel shutoff control, and fuel filter hose
disconnected from fuel injection pump (refer to TM 5-3805-262-20); and
oil and fuel lines disconnected from fuel injection pump (page 3-117).
REMOVAL (SHEET 1 OF 2)
(1) Crank engine using wrench on
crankshaft pulley capscrew
until TDC timing mark on
crankshaft pulley is alined
with timing pointer.
(2) Check if No. 1 cylinder push rods are loose. If push rods are loose, No.
1 cylinder is at TDC on compression stroke: go to step (3) below. If push
rods are tight, crank engine one complete revolution and aline TDC mark
on crankshaft pulley with timing pointer.
