INSPECTION/REPAIR (SEEET 2 OF 4)
(3) Inspect camshaft (86) for cracks, distortion, thread damage, or scored,
grooved, nicked, or chipped lobes. Inspect bearings (77 and 80) by rotat-
ing and checking that it turns smoothly. Check bearing rollers and cups
for flat areas, pitting, and scored, scratched, chipped, or cracked
races. Inspect intermediate bearing (76) for scores, scratches, nicks,
and cracks. Check oil seal (85) lip for cuts, cracks, and deterioration.
If any of the above conditions are seen, repair as follws:
(a) Remove intermediate bearing (76) .
(b) Press bearing cone (77) from camshaft (86) using mechanical puller kit.
(c) Remove shims (78) and stop ring (79) from camshaft (86); wire shims (78)
together to prevent loss.
(d) Press bearing cone (80) from camshaft (86) using mechanical puller kit.
