This task covers removal, disassembly, cleaning, in-
spection, reassembly, and installation of camshaft and bearings.

Fixed open end wrench set
Torque wrench, 1/2 inch drive
Torque wrench, 3/4 inch drive
Automotive Mechanics Tool Kit
Socket wrench set, 1/2 inch drive
Heat resistant gloves
Socket wrench adapter, 1/2 inch male to 3/4 inch female
Bore gage, zero to 5 inches
Camshaft bushing tool kit (FSCM 45225 PN CAS-1063)
Gear and bearing heater
Micrometer, zero to 5 inches
Wood dowel, 1 inch diameter
MATERIALS/PARTS: Clean cloths (Appendix C, item 1)
Cleaning solvent P-D-680 (Appendix C, item 2)
Engine lubricating oil, OE/HDO 30 (Appendix C, item 9)
Non-hardening sealant (Appendix C, item 10)
Plug (FSCM 10988 PN A58568)
PRELIMINARY PROCEDURE: Tachometer drive removed (page 3-42), rocker arm
assemblies and push rods removed from cylinder heads (page 3-60), fuel
injection pump removed (page 3-137), crankshaft pulley removed (page
3-51), timing gear cover removed (page 4-68), oil pan removed (page
3-89), and flywheel removed (page 3-57).
REMOVAL (SHEET 1 OF 3)
(1) Raise valve lifters (13) from
camshaft lobes as follows:
(a) Cut 12 pieces of light wire
about 18 inches long. Form a
small hook on one end of wire.
(b) Insert hook of wire into push
rod bore at top of cylinder
block and engage one hole in
valve lifter (13) with hook.
