6-3. FRONT AND REAR AXLES MAINTENANCE (CONT)
DRAINING AND REFILLING OIL (SHEET 2 OF 2)
Before raising vehicle from ground, be sure
i s i n s t a l l e d .
Failure to do so may cause
jacks or jack stands causing serious injury
t h a t t r a n s p o r t / s e r v i c e l i nk
vehicle to turn and slip off
or death. If you are injured
by falling equipment, obtain medical aid immediately.

If necessary, use a jack and raise
wheel off ground. Rotate wheel until
drain/fill plug on planetary wheel end
is at six o-clock position then lower
wheel to ground.

Using clean cloth , clean area around
planetary wheel end drain/fill plug .

Loosen planetary wheel end drain/fill
plug. Hold a four quart container just

into then remove drain/fill plug and
allow oil to drain from wheel end.

Use a jack and raise wheel off ground. Rotate wheel until drain/fill plug on
planetary wheel end is at nine o’clock position then lower wheel to ground.

Fill planetary wheel end with 3-1/2 quarts of oil (refer to current lubrica-
t i o n o r d e r ) o r u n t i l o i l l e v e l i s j u s t b e l o w d r a i n / f i l l p l u g h o l e . R e i n s t a ll
d r a i n / f i l l p l u g a n d t i g h t e n s e c u r e l y.

Repeat steps f through j above for opposite planetary wheel end.

Drive loader for ten minutes to warm axle oil.
m.
Park vehicle on level surface, stop engine, and apply parking brake.

Check all axle drain plugs for oil leakage. If leakage is observed, tighten
drain plugs.
