TM 5-3805-262-207-2. SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM MAINTENANCE a. Disk Brakes.(1) Inspection.This task covers inspection of disk brakes. Inspect diskbrakes after every 250 hours of operation or every month, whichever occurs first.TOOLS: Automotive Mechanic’s Tool KitM a c h i n i s t ’ s s t e e l r u leOutside micrometer, one inch capacity(a) At each wheel end, measure thickness of lining on each brake pad usingm a c h i n i s t ’ s s t e e l r u l e.(b) Thickness of each lining must be more than 0.100 inch. If lining thick-ness is not 0.100 inch, replace linings (page 7-19).(c) Thickness of lining in each caliper must be approximately equal. If lin-ing thickness is not equal, caliper is leaking at one side and must bereplaced (page 7-28).(d) Measure thickness of each disk .(e) Each disk must be at least 0.500 inch thick. If disk is not at least0.500 inch thick, notify direct support maintenance (disk must be re-p l a c e d ).(f) Check disks for deep grooves and warpage.If disk has deep grooves orwarpage, notify direct support maintenance (disk must be replaced).7-18
