If thelamp lights or if the meter reading is lowwhen connected from any stator lead to theframe, the windings are grounded.If the lamp fails to light, or if the meter read-4.ing is high (infinite) when successively con-nected between each pair of stator leads, thewindings are open.A short circuit in the stator windings isdifficult to locate without laboratory testequipment due to the low resistance of thewindings.However, if all other electricaltests are normal and the alternator fails tosupply the rated output, shorted stator wind-ings are indicated.If the stator windings are found to be faulty,replace the regulator assembly.5-12o
