c. Fuel Injection Pump.
This task covers servicing of the fuel injection pump
p r e l i m i n a r y f i l t e r e l e m e n t. Service this filter element whenever you service the
f i r s t a n d s e c o n d s t a g e f i l t e r s ( p a g e 4 - 3 8 ).
MATERIALS/PARTS: Clean cloths (Appendix C, item 1)

SERVICING

burned, obtain medical aid immediately.

Loosen bail lock nut.
Swing bail out of way then
lower and remove fuel bowl with
gasket, element, and spring.
Discard gasket.
Using clean diesel fuel, flush
out element. If element is
damaged, coated with varnish or
other nonremovable deposits,
r e p l a c e i t .
Clean fuel bowl using clean
cloth moistened with diesel
f u e l . D r y u s i n g c l e a n , l i n t
f r e e c l o t h.
I n s t a l l s p r i n g , e l e m e n t , a nd
new gasket in fuel bowl.
Install fuel bowl with
i n s t a l l e d p a r t s . S l i d e b a i l
into position and tighten bail
l o c k n u t f i n g e r t i g h t.
Bleed air from fuel system (page 4-40).
