If fuel injector nozzles are okay, reinstall using new gaskets (page 3-113) and go to step 8 below. Step 8. Check fuel injection pump timing adjustment (page 3-10). Step 9. Step 10. a. If timing adjustment is not okay, adjust (page 3-10). b. If timing adjustment is okay, go to step 9 below. Check fuel injection governor adjustments (page 3-14). a. If fuel injection governor adjustments are not okay, adjust (page 3-14). If adjustments cannot be performed, go to step 10 below. b. If fuel injection governor adjustments are okay, go to step 11 below. Remove five capscrews securing gear cover and gasket to timing gear cover. Discard gasket. Check fuel injection pump drive gear to idler gear backlash using dial indicator. Backlash should be 0.012 inch. 2-15
