b. Front Axle Differential Assembly.
This task covers removal and installation
of front axle differential assembly.
TOOLS: No. 1 Common Organizational Maintenance Tool Kit
Hand hammer, 16 ounces
Soft stone
Torque wrench, 1/2 inch drive
Automotive Mechanics Tool Kit
Chisel, 3/4 inch cut
Putty knife
Socket wrench set, 1/2 inch drive
Pry bar
Chain hoist
Roller jack
Rubber mallet
Wood block
MATERIALS/PARTS: Clean cloths (Appendix C, item 1)
Cleaning solvent P-D-680 (Appendix C, item 2)
Air-drying adhesive (Appendix C, item 34)

NOTE
PRELIMINARY PROCEDURE: Lubricant drained from front axle differential
assembly and planetary ends,
front chassis raised and supported using
jack stands, front drive shaft and front wheels removed, and brake lines
and fittings disconnected from front axle (refer to TM 5-3805-262-20);
and planetary gear spiders and axle shafts removed (page 3-367).
REMOVAL (SHEET 1 OF 2)
Before performing following steps, be sure that transport/service link
is in engaged position (refer to TM 5-3805-262-10) and chassis is
securely supported by jack stands. Failure to do so could cause chassis
to fall on you causing serious injury or death.

Loosen and remove 12 nuts (1) and washers (2).
Loosen but dont remove remaining two nuts (1). These will prevent dif-
ferential assembly from falling after it is broken loose from housing.
Loosen differential assembly
If necessary, use hammer and
