Test Step 2. Test for Shorted Engine
Temperature Sensor Signal
Control Wiring Harness.
1. Turn ignition switch and battery
Voltage Is Above Normal or
disconnect switch to OFF position
the Voltage Is Shorted High -
(TM 5-3805-298-10).

2. Remove right engine access panel
(WP 0348).
3. Disconnect connector E-C3
(WP 0012, Figure 16) from engine
coolant temperature sensor.
4. Disconnect connector E-C4
(WP 0012, Figure 10) from engine
ECM connector J2.
5. Using digital multimeter
Continuity - Replace engine control
(WP 0174), test for continuity
wiring harness (WP 0294).
between connector E-C4
Proceed to Test Step 4.
(WP 0012, Figure 10) terminal 43
No Continuity - Proceed to Test Step 3.
and all other E-C4 terminals.
Test Step 3. Test for Open Engine
Control Wiring Harness.
1. Connect jumper wire between
terminal 1 and terminal 2 of
connector E-C3 (WP 0012,
Figure 16).
2. Using digital multimeter
Resistance 5.0 Ohms or Less -
(WP 0174), measure resistance
Replace engine coolant temperature
between connector E-C4
sensor (WP 0248).
(WP 0012, Figure 10) terminal 43
Proceed to Test Step 4.
and terminal 37.
Resistance Greater Than 5.0 Ohms -
Replace engine control wiring harness
(WP 0294).
Proceed to Test Step 4.
Test Step 4. Verify Malfunction Is
Resolved.
1. Ensure all wiring harness
connectors are connected.
2. Install right engine access panel
(WP 0348).
