a. Transmission Torque Converter Group (Cont).

Lubricate oil seal (12) using lubricating oil.
Install converter pump (29) and
assembled parts (22 thru 28) on
converter ground sleeve. Be
sure drive gear (25) teeth are
meshed with converter ground
sleeve. If necessary, use
sleeve and hammer to drive
converter pump onto converter
ground sleeve until it stops
moving.
Install spacer (10) and stator
(9), hub projection inward, on
converter ground sleeve.
Install retaining ring (8) on
converter ground sleeve using
retaining ring pliers to secure
stator (9).
Install turbine housing (21) and assembled parts (15 thru 20) onto drive
gear and shaft.
Install seal (7) in converter pump
(29) groove. Be sure seal is posi-
tioned as shown.
Install converter cover (6) and se-
cure using 24 new lock nuts (5).
Tighten every other lock nut to 14 to
18 lb-ft until all lock nuts are
tight.
Position flex plate disks (3 and 4)
over converter cover (6) hub.
Position retaining plate (2) over
converter cover (6) hub, on top of
flex plate disks (3 and 4).
Install six capscrews (1) and tighten to 81 to 97 lb-ft.
