CLEANING, INSPECTION, AND REPAIR (SHEET 3 OF 3)
NOTE
Repeat steps (h) through (o) above for three remaining pinion gears (13)
of matched pinion gear set (13).

Use spring gage to check spring (2) compression under load. Replace
spring (2) if pressure required to compress spring to 4.80 inches is not
45.1 to 49.9 pounds.
Check clutch plates (4 and 5) with a straight edge to be sure they are
flat. If a clutch plate is not flat, replace it.
Inspect clutch plates (4) for smooth or almost smooth surface. If smooth
or almost smooth surface is seen, replace clutch plate.
Inspect clutch plates (5) for pitting, scoring, and other damage. Replace
as necessary.
NOTE
Replace an item if inspection indicates need for replacement.
Inspect clutch plates (4 and 5) for burrs, embedded metal particles, se-
verely pitted faces, excessive wear, cracks, distortion, or damaged
spline teeth.
Inspect sun gear (7) for cracks or chipped, nicked, burred, broken, or
missing teeth.
Inspect anchor and pin assembly (3) and reverse clutch piston (6) for
cracks or distortion.
INSTALLATION (SHEET 1 OF 3)
(1) Install new seal (10) in inner
groove of reverse clutch piston
(6). Use 5/8 inch diameter rod
to push seal into position.
(2) Install new seal (9) in center
groove of reverse clutch piston
(6). Use 5/8 inch diameter rod
to push seal into position.
(3) Install new seal (8) in outer
groove of reverse clutch piston
(6).
