a. If valve timing is not okay as indicated by dial indicator hand
not indicating 0.053 inch, go to Malfunction 11, page 2-41.
b. If valve timing is okay as indicated by dial indicator hand in-
dicating 0.053 inch, go to step 2 below.
Check fuel injection pump timing (page 3-10) and governor adjust-
ments (page 3-14).
a. If fuel injection pump timing and governor adjustments are not
okay, adjust fuel injection pump timing (page 3-10) and adjust
governor (page 3-14).
b. If fuel injection pump timing and governor adjustments are okay,
go to step 3 below.
Tell assistant to start engine and operate at idle speed.
Listen for noise at flywheel housing with engine operating at idle
speed.
a. If noise is heard, tell assistant to increase engine speed. If
noise goes away when engine speed increases, flywheel is loose.
Tighten flywheel mounting hardware (page 3-57).
b. If noise is not heard at flywheel, go to step 4 below.
Tell assistant to start engine and operate at idle speed.
