V-BELTS MAINTENANCE - CONTINUED

Always replace alternator V-belts as a set. Never replace one V-belt.
V-belt specifications are:
a.
0.547 in. (13.89 mm) x 0.5 in. (12.7 mm)
b.
Initial tension - 120 lb (535 N)
c.
Used tension (after 30 minutes or more at rated speed) - 80 lb (385 N).
1.
Install two V-belts (3).
2.
Rotate alternator (2) to tighten two V-belts (3). Tighten two bolts (1) to 58 lb-ft (78 Nm).
3.
Adjust belt tension to 0.55 to 0.79 in. (14 to 20 mm) deflection. Refer to Belt Adjustment in this work package.

AIR CONDITIONER BELT REMOVAL
1.
Remove alternator belts. Refer to Alternator Belt
Removal in this work package.
2.
Loosen bolt (5).
3.
Loosen bolt (6) on compressor (7).
4.
(8).
5.
Remove AC belt (8) from compressor (7).

AIR CONDITIONER BELT INSTALLATION
1.
Install AC belt (8) on compressor (7).
N OT E
Maximum deflection for air conditioner belt should be 0.55 to 0.79 in. (14 to 20 mm) under 25 lb (110 N) of
force.
2.
Move compressor (7) to adjust belt tension.
3.
While holding compressor (7) in position, tighten bolt (5) on compressor.
4.
Leave bolt (6) loose and perform belt adjustment.
5.
Install alternator belts. Refer to Alternator Belt Installation in this work package.

BELT ADJUSTMENT
1.
Inspect condition of belt and replace as needed.
2.
Place profile gage or a 6 in. scale at center of longest free length of belt, loosen necessary mounting bolts, adjust tension
on each belt to specified amount of deflection, and tighten all mounting bolts.
3.
Repeat step 2 as needed.
4.
Run engine and check for correct operation (TM 5-3805-290-10).
