FINDING TOP-DEAD-CENTER (TDC) CONTINUED
N OT E
When the engine is at top-dead-center (TDC) for the No. 1 compression stroke, there is a
raised area on the forged part of the camshaft visible in the opening shown in Figure 4.
4. Remove two bolts (Figure 4, Item 4), washers (Figure 4, Item 5), clamp (Figure 4, Item 6), cover plate (Figure
4, Item 7), and gasket (Figure 4, Item 8) from right side of engine (Figure 4, Item 1). Discard gasket.
5. Rotate engine to TDC for cylinder No. 1 until raised area (Figure 4, Item 9) is visible.
N OT E
When flywheel is pinned properly, the crankshaft should be immobile.
6. Install engine timing pin (Figure 4, Item 3) in flywheel housing (Figure 4, Item 2).
