At operating temperature, transmission oil is hot. Allow transmission oil to
cool before removing drain plug.
Wear protective eye covering and gloves.
Lubricating oils used in performance of maintenance can be very slippery.
Immediately wipe up any spills.
Failure to follow these warnings may result in injury or death to
personnel.
Test Step 4. Check Transmission Oil.
1. Run engine at low idle (825 rpm)
until transmission is warm.
2. Check transmission oil level in
Transmission Oil Level Is Between
sight gauge (TM 5-3805-298-10).
Low Mark and High Mark - Proceed
to step 3.
Transmission Oil Level Is Below
Low Mark - Add transmission oil
through filler tube opening until level is
between low and high mark
(TM 5-3805-298-10).
Proceed to Test Step 10.
Transmission Oil Level Is Above
High Mark - Drain transmission oil
until level is between low and high
mark (WP 0312).
Proceed to Test Step 10.
3. Visually inspect transmission oil in
Air Bubbles Present in
sight gauge for air bubbles.
Transmission Oil - Proceed to step 4.
No Air Bubbles Present in
Transmission Oil - Proceed to Test
Step 5.
4. Visually inspect output hose of the
Transmission Pump Hose Is Not
transmission pump for Class III
Leaking - Proceed to step 5.
leaks (WP 0173). Check the
Transmission Pump Hose Is
ground for signs of leakage.
Leaking - Tighten or replace
transmission pump supply hose
(WP 0173).
Proceed to Test Step 10.
