WIRING HARNESS AND WIRING HARNESS CONNECTOR INSPECTION CONTINUED
NOTE
It is normal to see minor seal abrasion on connector seals. Minor seal abrasion will not
allow entry of moisture.
If moisture or corrosion is evident in connector, source of moisture entry must be found
and source of moisture entry must be repaired. If source of moisture entry is not repaired,
fault will recur.
Moisture can also travel to a connector through the inside of a wire. If moisture is found in
a connector, thoroughly check wiring harness for damage.
3. Disconnect suspect connector and inspect connector seal. Ensure seal is in good condition.
4. Inspect connectors for evidence of moisture entry. Ensure seal is in good condition.
Inspect the following items for possible moisture entry path:
Loose or stretched seals
Missing seals
Incorrectly installed seals
Cracked, warped, or damaged connector body
Broken, missing, warped, or damaged locking tab on connector body
Improperly mated connectors
Inspect Wiring Harness for Damage to Insulation
000174
1. Inspect each wire for signs of abrasion, burns, cracks, nicks and cuts. Replace affected wiring harness
if condition is found.
2. Inspect safety clips on wiring harness connectors to ensure wiring harness is correctly secured. Attach wiring
harness to safety clips as required.
3. Position wiring harness sleeves aside and inspect wiring harness for flattened, or pinched portion of wire.
Replace affected wiring harness if condition is found.
Inspect Connector Terminals
000174
Inspect connector terminals for corrosion and damage. Replace affected wiring harness if terminals are damaged.
Replace affected wiring harness if corrosion cannot be removed.
Inspect Individual Pin Retention into Socket
000174
Ensure terminal is properly secured in connector body by firmly pulling each wire. Terminal should not pull free
from connector body. Replace affected harness if condition is found.
Inspect Locking Mechanism of Connectors
000174
1. Ensure connectors lock correctly. After locking connectors, ensure two halves cannot be pulled apart.
2. Verify latch tab of connector is correctly latched. Also verify latch tab of connector returns to locked position.
3. Check if connector is locked securely, that connector and locking mechanism are without cracks or breaks, and
are not bent or damaged. Replace affected harness if condition is found.
Check Screws on Electronic Control Module (ECM) and Other Screwed Connectors
000174
Inspect threads on screws of connector and mating connector for wear and damage. Replace affected wiring
harness if condition is found.
