WARNING
DO NOT disconnect or remove any hydraulic system line or fitting unless the engine is
shut down and hydraulic system pressure has been relieved. Tighten all connections
before applying pressure. Escaping hydraulic fluid under pressure can penetrate the skin,
causing injury or death to personnel.
Allow hydraulic system to cool before performing procedure. Hot metal parts can cause
severe burns. Wear eye, hand, and skin protection when working with heated parts.
Hydraulic oil is very slippery. Immediately wipe up any spills.
Always know location of all other personnel in area. Warn them before operating the BHL.
Always keep all other personnel away from area.
Failure to follow these warnings may result in injury or death to personnel.
CAUTION
Plug and cap all hoses and fittings to prevent contamination. Failure to follow this caution
may result in damage to machine.
NOTE
Tag and mark hydraulic hose connections to aid in installation.
Use a copy of flowmeter checksheet (Figure 71 and Figure 72) to record information for
the following tests.
STEERING CONTROL VALVE LEAK TEST
0086
1. Run and maintain engine at 2,000 rpm.
NOTE
Pressure gauge may bounce during test. Turn gauge snubber knob (Figure 44, Item 7) to
dampen gauge bounce. Low-pressure gauge (Figure 44, Item 2) is not used for pressures
above 600 psi (4,136 kPa).
2. Turn steering wheel full right and hold against stop (TM 5-2420-231-10).
3. Press POWER button (Figure 45, Item 6) to activate flow gauge (digital readout) (Figure 45, Item 5).
NOTE
Ensure jam nut is contacting base of load valve knob.
During adjustment, load valve knob may feel loose.
4. Adjust load valve (Figure 45, Item 3) on flowmeter (Figure 45, Item 4) until pressure gauge (Figure 45, Item 1)
reads 1,800 psi (12,411 kPa). Read flow gauge (Figure 45, Item 5) and record reading on flowmeter
checksheet (8a).
5. Turn steering wheel full left and hold against stop (TM 5-2420-231-10).
6. Adjust load valve (Figure 45, Item 3) on flowmeter (Figure 45, Item 4) until pressure gauge (Figure 45, Item 1)
reads 1,800 psi (12,411 kPa). Read flow gauge (Figure 45, Item 5) and record reading on flowmeter
checksheet (8b).
