3-14. TRANSMISSION TROUBLESHOOTING (CONT)
MALFUNCTION
TEST OR INSPECTION
CORRECTIVE ACTION
2. SLOW OR ERRATIC TRANSMISSION SHIFTING.
Step 1.
Check oil level with transmission at oper-
ating temperature (page 6-4), transmission
control lever in N (neutral) and engine
operating at idle speed.
a. If oil level is not between FULL and
ADD marks, add oil (page 6-4).
NOTE
One quart of oil will raise dipstick level
1/2 inch.
b. If oil level is between FULL and ADD
marks, go to step 2 below.
Step 2.
Check oil filter for leakage and/or
damage.

if damaged, replace (page 6-8).
I f o i l f i l t e r i s n o t l e a k i n g or
damaged, go to step 3.
Step 3.
Remove suction

strainer and check if dirty or damaged (page 6-6).

Remove engine right side panels (page 9-14).
