Front Wiring Harness (cont).TESTING (SHEET 2 OF 2)(g)Unplug front wiring harness connector(2)(3)(4)from rear wiring harness connector bypushing connector nut, turning counter-clockwise, and pulling firmly.I d e n t i f y w i r e u n d e r t e s t u s i n g e l e c t r i c alwiring diagram, figure FO-3, connect multi-meter between ends of wire, and check mul-t i m e t e r f o r c o n t i n u i t y i n d i c a t i o n . I f m u l-t i m e t e r d o e s n o t i n d i c a t e c o n t i n u i t y , r e -pair wire, connector, or terminal.Connect multimeter between either end ofwire under test and good vehicle ground.Check multimeter for no continuity (openc i r c u i t ) i n d i c a t i o n . I f m u l t i m e t e r i n d i -cates continuity, repair chafed or cut wirei n s u l a t i o n .Identify harness wires adjacent to wire under test. Connect multimeterbetween either end of wire under test and each adjacent wire. Check mul-t i m e t e r f o r n o c o n t i n u i t y ( o p e n c i r c u i t ) i n d i c a t i o n f o r e a c h t e s t . Ifmultimeter indicates continuity, repair chafed or cut wire insulation.REPAIR (SHEET 1 OF 3)NOTERemove clamps and cut, remove, a n d d i s c a r d t i e s t r a p s a s n e c e s s a r y f o ra c c e s s t o w i r e s i n f o l l o w i n g s t e p s . I f n e c e s s a r y , c a r e f u l l y c u t o u t e rcovering from wiring harness to expose wires. If defective wire is nota c c e s s i b l e f o r r e p a i r , o r i f w i r i n g h a r n e s s i s b a d l y d a m a g e d , n o t i fydirect support maintenance to replace wiring harness.(1) Repair cut or defective wire by cutting length ofwire. Strip 1/4 inch insulation from end of wiresthrough wires. Splice ends of new wire to ends ofsulated splice connectors.same gage and colortaking care not to cutharness wire using in-(2) Repair cracked or broken wire insulation by wrapping insulation tapearound damaged area of wire.(3) Repair cut or frayed harness outer covering by wrapping insulation tapearound damaged area.5-168
