NOTE
Replace an item if inspection indicates need for replacement.
Inspect bearings (6, 8, 22, and 28) by rotating and checking that it
turns smoothly. Check bearing balls and rollers for flat areas, pitting,
scored, scratched,
chipped, or cracked races.
Measure thrust race (25) thickness using micrometer. If thickness is less
than 0.028 inch, replace thrust race.
Measure thrust race (27) thickness using micrometer. If thickness is less
than 0.120 inch, replace thrust race.
Check springs (17 and 19) compression using spring gage. Replace spring
(17) if pressure required to compress spring to 1.00 inch is not 5.58 to
6.82 pounds. Replace spring (19) if pressure required to compress spring
to 1.02 inches is not 31.4 to 34.6 pounds.
Inspect drive gears and shafts (23 and 29) and driven gear (5) for
chipped, nicked, burred, or broken teeth.
Inspect torque converter housing (20) for cracks or distortion.
Inspect retaining ring (7) for nicks, distortion, or excessive wear.
Inspect all other parts for cracks, scratches, burrs, or damaged threads.
Check and ensure that all gasket (30) material is removed from torque
converter housing (20) and transmission housing.
