b. Torque Converter Housing (Cont).
REASSEMBLY (SHEET 2 OF 4)
(7)
If removed, position valve (18) and lubrication regulator spring (17) on
valve guide pin (16). Press valve guide pin into lower torque converter
housing valve bore until valve guide pin is even with or 0.010 inch below
torque converter housing (20) surface.
NOTE
If press fit of valve guide pin (16) is not satisfactory, clean and
apply thread sealant to bore and valve guide pin. Allow thread sealant
to cure for two hours at room temperature after pressing valve guide pin
into bore.
(8)
If removed, install two new dowel pins (15). Press pins into bores until
they protrude 0.430 to 0.450 inch above torque converter housing (20)
surface.
(9)
If removed, install and tighten four plugs (12 thru 14).
When handling heated parts, wear heat resistant gloves to prevent
burning your hands.
If you burn your hands, get medical assistance
immediately.
(10) If removed, heat housing sleeve (11) in an oven. Put torque converter
housing (20) on hydraulic press. Using insulated gloves, position housing
sleeve, groove outward, on torque converter housing. Using 3-3/8 inches
outside diameter sleeve, press housing sleeve onto hub of torque conver-
ter housing. Seat sleeve against shoulder of hub.
Temperature of solid carbon dioxide (dry ice) is below -70 degrees F.
Wear insulated gloves to prevent severe skin injury. If skin is injured
by contact with dry ice, flush with large amounts of cold water to raise
temperature above freezing point and obtain medical aid immediately.
(11) If removed, chill new converter ground sleeve (10) in dry ice for at
least an hour.
