Press valve guide pin into lower torque converterhousing valve bore until valve guide pin is even with or 0.010 inch belowtorque converter housing (20) surface.NOTEIf press fit of valve guide pin (16) is not satisfactory, clean andapply thread sealant to bore and valve guide pin. Allow thread sealantto cure for two hours at room temperature after pressing valve guide pininto bore.(8)If removed, install two new dowel pins (15). Press pins into bores untilthey protrude 0.430 to 0.450 inch above torque converter housing (20)surface.(9)If removed, install and tighten four plugs (12 thru 14).When handling heated parts, wear heat resistant gloves to preventburning your hands.If you burn your hands, get medical assistanceimmediately.(10) If removed, heat housing sleeve (11) in an oven. Put torque converterhousing (20) on hydraulic press. Using insulated gloves, position housingsleeve, groove outward, on torque converter housing. Using 3-3/8 inchesoutside diameter sleeve, press housing sleeve onto hub of torque conver-ter housing. Seat sleeve against shoulder of hub.Temperature of solid carbon dioxide (dry ice) is below -70 degrees F.Wear insulated gloves to prevent severe skin injury. If skin is injuredby contact with dry ice, flush with large amounts of cold water to raisetemperature above freezing point and obtain medical aid immediately.(11) If removed, chill new converter ground sleeve (10) in dry ice for atleast an hour.4-126
