This task covers disassembly, cleaning, inspection, and
reassembly of control valve.
TOOLS: No. 1 Common Organizational Maintenance Tool Kit
Safety glasses
Combination box and open end wrench set
Vise
Vise jaw caps
Hand hammer, 16 ounces
Screwdriver
Slip joint pliers
Automotive Mechanic's Tool Kit
Machinists steel rule
Drive pin punch, 3/8 inch point
Pry bar
Sleeve, 1-1/4 inches outside diameter by 6 inches long
Rawhide hammer
Spring gage
Fine wire
MATERIALS/PARTS: Clean cloths (Appendix C, item 1)
Cleaning solvent P-D-680 (Appendix C, item 2)
Thread sealant (Appendix C, item 37)
Transmission gasket kit (FSCM 73342 PN 6838897)
NOTE
PRELIMINARY PROCEDURE: Control valve removed from transmission housing
(page 3-341).
DISASSEMBLY (SHEET 1 OF 3)
NOTE
If not already removed, remove clutch pressure switch, back up alarm
switch , neutral start switch and gasket, and cut out cylinder.
Be careful in following step not to put too much pressure on control
valve body (29). To do so could distort body causing cracks or other
damage.

Put control valve in soft jawed vise.
(2)
Remove plug (1) and gasket (2). Discard gasket.
(3) Remove regulator valve (3).
(4)
Remove plug (4) and gasket (5). Discard gasket.
