13-5. STARTER REPAIR (CONT)
DISASSEMBLY (SHEET 4 OF 5)
o. Remove five capscrews (28) and lock washers (29), then separate field frame
from lever housing.
NOTE
Perform step p below only if inspection indicates need for replacement;
otherwise go to step q below.
p. Remove field coil:

Use hand-impact wrench to loosen eight screws (33). Do not remove
screws.
Remove nut (30), washer (31), and two insulators (32) from terminal stud
(39).
Remove eight screws (33) and four pole shoes (34).
Carefully push terminal stud (39) out of field frame hole.
Remove insulators (35 and 36).
Carefully pull field coil (37) from field frame.
Remove bushing assembly (38) from terminal stud (39).
Unsolder terminal stud (39) from field coil (37).
q. Remove thrust washer (40) from lever housing.
r. Remove six socket head screws (41 and 42).
s. Separate drive housing from lever housing.
t. Remove and discard gasket (43).
u. Remove drive assembly (44) from lever housing.
