3-5. STARTER REPAIR (CONT)
CLEANING
a. Clean armature (27), field coil (37), drive assembly (44), and boot (68) using
clean cloths.
Dry cleaning solvent P-D-680 used to clean parts is toxic and flammable.
Wear protective goggles and gloves and use only in a well ventilated
area. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothes and dont breathe
vapors. Do not use near open flame or excessive heat and dont smoke
when using it. Failure to do so could cause serious injury. If you be-
come dizzy

while using cleaning solvent, get fresh air and medical
immediately. If contact with skin or clothes is made, flush
amounts of water. If contact with eyes is made, wash eyes
and get medical aid immediately.
b. Clean all metal parts using cleaning solvent P-D-680. Dry using clean cloths.
INSPECTION, TESTING, AND REPAIR (SHEET 1 OF 7)
a. Inspect plate and frame assemblies (20 and 21) for cracks, distortion, and
thread damage. Replace plate or frame assembly if any of the above conditions
are seen, or if they do not pass the following tests:
(1) Hold multimeter red lead on plate assembly (20) terminal stud, black lead
on bracket A. Note multimeter indication. Move black lead to bracket B
and note multimeter indication. Multimeter should indicate continuity
(multimeter pointer should move).
(2) Hold multimeter red lead on plate assembly terminal stud, black lead on
frame assembly. Multimeter should indicate open circuit (multimeter
pointer should not move).
