Install one compression ring (13) in top groove on piston (18) and two
compression rings (13) in second groove on top of piston. Ends of com-
pression rings must be 90 degrees apart. The word “TOP” or dots on com-
pression rings must be toward top of piston.
Repeat steps (o) through (r) above for remaining piston (18).
Install four buttons (16) in wrist pins (17).
Lubricate front and rear bores in
cylinder block (2) with clean lu-
bricating oil.
Install front and rear piston and
connecting rod assemblies (8 thru
18) in associated bores in cyl-
inder block (2), with bosses on
connecting rods (12) toward cen-
ter of cylinder block. Use hammer
handle to push pistons into
bores.
Do not mix piston and connecting rod mating
rod cap (9) on same connecting rod (12) from which it was removed.

rods (12).
NOTE
If crankshaft (27) journals were
reground,
install oversize in-
serts (10).
(x) Install new inserts (10) in
connecting rods (12). Make
sure tab on inserts is en-
gaged in notch on connect-
ing rods.
