3-15. AUXILIARY STEERING PUMP AND MOTOR MAINTENANCE (CONT)
b. Removal, Separation. Joining, and Installation.
This task covers removal and
installation of auxiliary steering pump and motor. It also covers separation of this
unit into pump section and motor section and joining of the two into a complete aux-
iliary steering pump and motor.
TOOLS: No. 1 Common Organizational Maintenance Tool Kit
Safety glasses
Hand hammer, 16 ounces
Socket wrench set, 3/8 inch drive
No. 2 Common Organizational Maintenance Tool Kit
Torque wrench, 3/8 inch drive, 200 lb-in capacity
Automotive Mechanic-s Tool Kit
Drive pin punch, 1/8 inch point
MATERIALS/PARTS: Clean cloths (Appendix C, item 1)
Cleaning solvent P-D-680 (Appendix C, item 2)
REFERENCE: TM 5-3805-262-20
NOTE
PRELIMINARY PROCEDURE: Electrical wires and cables and hoses, lines and
fittings disconnected from auxiliary steering pump and motor (refer to
TM 5-3805-262-20).
REMOVAL
Auxiliary steering pump and motor (4) is heavy. Be sure pump and motor
is adequately supported before removing mounting hardware. Failure to do
so could result in severe injury due to pump and motor falling and
crushing your foot.
If you are injured by falling equipment, obtain
medical aid immediately.

At front left side of rear chassis,
support auxiliary steering pump and
motor (4).
Note location of ground cable on one
capscrew (1), then remove four
capscrews (1), nuts (2), and lock
washers (3). Disconnect ground cable
from capscrew (1) and remove.
Remove pump and motor (4) from rear
chassis.
