2-5. FUEL SYSTEM TROUBLESHOOTING (CONT)
MALFUNCTION
TEST OR INSPECTION
CORRECTIVE ACTION
1. FUEL INJECTION PUMP NOT OPERATING PROPERLY (Cont).
Step 2.
Remove cap nut.
Move fuel shutoff lever towards drive end of pump and watch control
rack while operating fuel control lever back and forth.
Control rack should move.
a. If control rack does not move, go to step 3 below.
b. If control rack moves, go to step 4 below.
Step 3.
Remove governor (page 3-167).
Grasp control rack and check if it moves freely.

If control rack moves freely, problem is in governor.
Disassemble governor (page 3-173) and check parts for wear or
damage.
If control rack does not move freely, disassemble fuel injection
pump (page 3-140) and check control rack and gear segments for
damage or wear.
