3. EXCESSIVE FUEL USAGE
Step 1. Perform top dead center check (page 3-4).
a. If mid-point between two lines scribed on crankshaft pulley does
not aline with TDC (top dead center) mark on crankshaft pulley,
replace crankshaft pulley (page 3-51).
b. If mid-point between two lines scribed on crankshaft pulley does
aline with TDC (top dead center) mark on crankshaft pulley, go
to step 2 below.
Step 2. Check valve timing (page 3-8).
a. If valve timing is not okay as indicated by dial indicator hand
not indicating 0.053 inch, go to step 3 below.
b. If valve timing is okay as indicated by dial indicator hand in-
dicating 0.053 inch, go to step 6 below.
Step 3.
Remove timing gear cover (page 4-67).
Check that timing marks on drive gear and crankshaft gear are alined
as shown.
a. If timing marks are not alined, remove camshaft and drive gear
(page 4-54). Check for damaged camshaft, key, or drive gear
(page 4-59).
b. If timing marks are alined, go to step 4 below.
