STEERING FORCE CHECK

WARNING
The steering force check will cause wheel motion.
Before performing steering force check, clear machine and area of all personnel. Check
visibility and adjust mirrors for best vision close to the machine. Fasten your seatbelt
securely whenever in the cab and operating the machine. Empty bucket of all material.
Park machine in an open area on level ground.
Failure to follow this warning may result in injury or death to personnel.
1. Turn ignition switch and battery disconnect switch to OFF position (TM 5-3805-298-10).
2. Remove horn button (Figure 1, Item 1) from steering wheel (Figure 1, Item 2).
3. Disconnect horn wire (Figure 1, Item 3) from horn button (Figure 1, Item 1).
4. Push horn wire (Figure 1, Item 3) around hole (Figure 1, Item 4) so wire can be placed inside deep well socket
without being clipped.
5. Use torque wrench on nut (Figure 1, Item 5) to turn steering wheel very slowly. The torque required to turn
steering wheel is 15 to 30 lb-in (1.7 to 3.4 Nm).
6. Turn battery disconnect switch ON and start engine (TM 5-3805-298-10).
7. Raise work tool from ground (TM 5-3805-298-10).
8. Use torque wrench on nut (Figure 1, Item 5) to turn steering wheel very slowly. The torque required to turn
steering wheel is 15.0 2.0 lb-in (1.7 0.25 Nm).
