5. Connect clamp (Figure 2, Item 3) of ammeter (Figure 2, Item 1) around positive alternator cable
(Figure 2, Item 2) with arrow (Figure 2, Item 4) facing direction of current flow (away from alternator).
6. While monitoring ammeter (Figure 2, Item 1), have assistant start engine and then fully depress and hold
throttle pedal (TM 5-3805-298-10).
a. If initial charging current is greater than 70 amps, proceed to step 8.
b. If initial charging current is less than 70 amps, alternator is faulty.

Remove ammeter (Figure 2, Item 1) from machine.
