WARNING
DO NOT perform fuel system checks, inspections, or maintenance while smoking or near
fire, flames, or sparks. Fuel may ignite, causing damage to equipment and injury or death
to personnel.
Allow engine to cool off before performing maintenance on fuel filter. Hot metal parts can
cause severe burns. Wear eye, glove, and skin protection when working with heated parts.
Wear fuel resistant gloves and eye protection when handling fuels. If exposed to fuel,
promptly wash exposed skin and change fuel-soaked clothing.
Failure to follow these warnings may result in injury or death to personnel, or damage to
equipment.
NOTE
Only conduct flow test if battery is sufficiently charged. During measurement, voltage
applied to the heater should be at least 23 Volts and not more than 25 Volts.
1. Disconnect fuel pressure line (Figure 1, Item 2) from arctic heater (Figure 1, Item 3).
2. Place end of fuel pressure line (Figure 1, Item 2) in beaker (Figure 1, Item 4).
3. Switch arctic heater (Figure 1, Item 3) ON (TM 5-3805-298-10). When fuel discharges free of bubbles, fuel pipe
is full and vented.
4. Switch arctic heater (Figure 1, Item 3) OFF (TM 5-3805-298-10) and empty beaker (Figure 1,Item 4).
5. Proceed to Measuring Fuel Flow in this work package.
