WARNING
DO NOT disconnect or remove any hydraulic system line or fitting unless the engine is
shut down and hydraulic system pressure has been relieved. Tighten all connections
before applying pressure. Escaping hydraulic fluid under pressure can penetrate the skin,
causing injury or death to personnel.
Allow hydraulic system to cool before performing procedure. Hot metal parts can cause
severe burns. Wear eye, hand, and skin protection when working with heated parts.
Hydraulic oil is very slippery. Immediately wipe up any spills.
Always know location of all other personnel in area. Warn them before operating the BHL.
Always keep all other personnel away from area.
Failure to follow these warnings may result in injury or death to personnel.
CAUTION
Plug and cap all hoses and fittings to prevent contamination. Failure to follow this caution
may result in damage to machine.
NOTE
Tag and mark hydraulic hose connections to aid in installation.
PILOT PRESSURE
0086
1. Start and run engine at full throttle. Operate loader or backhoe until engine and transmission are at normal
operating temperature, then turn ignition switch to the off position (TM 5-2420-231-10).
2. Turn ignition switch to the on position (TM 5-2420-231-10).
3. Enable pilot control switch (TM 5-2420-231-10).
4. Move both backhoe joysticks in all directions to remove residual hydraulic pressure from pilot controls.
5. Turn ignition switch off (TM 5-2420-231-10).
6. Connect a hose and 600 psi (4,136 kPa) gauge to pilot control valve test port (Figure 1, Item 1) labeled DIAG.
7. Operate engine at idle (TM 5-2420-231-10).
8. Enable pilot control switch (TM 5-2420-231-10).
9. Move backhoe bucket out (TM 5-2420-231-10).
10. Monitor and record pressure gauge. This is pilot pressure.
11. Record pilot pressure on flowmeter checksheet (1f). Pressure reading should be 350 to 550 psi
(2,413 to 3,792 kPa).
12. Turn the ignition switch to the off position (TM 5-2420-231-10).
13. Turn ignition switch to the on position (TM 5-2420-231-10).
14. Enable pilot control switch (TM 5-2420-231-10).
15. Move both backhoe joysticks in all directions to remove residual hydraulic pressure from pilot controls.
16. Turn ignition switch off (TM 5-2420-231-10).
17. Disconnect 600 psi (4,136 kPa) gauge from pilot control valve test port (Figure 1, Item 1).
