FUEL SYSTEM PRIME PROCEDURE CONTINUED
WARNING
When starter motor is operated to eliminate air from the high-pressure tubes, engine will
likely run and fuel will be expelled from the fuel pipes.
Fire extinguishers should be placed nearby.
Failure to follow these warnings may result in injury or death to personnel.
CAUTION
Damage to the high-pressure fuel pump, batteries, or starter motor can occur if the starter
motor is used excessively to eliminate air from the fuel system.
NOTE
If engine starts during procedure, tighten all loosened fittings and allow engine to run at
idle for a period of five minutes.
4. Loosen two high-pressure fuel tubes (Figure 26, Item 1) on fuel injectors (Figure 26, Item 2).
5. Use an assistant to crank engine (TM 5-2420-231-10). As fuel, free of air, is expelled from the high-pressure
fuel tube fittings (Figure 26, Item 1), tighten two high-pressure fuel tubes. Stop cranking engine.
6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 for remaining two high-pressure fuel tubes.
NOTE
Exhaust muffler and aspirate check valve hose removed for clarity.
