2-8. TRANSMISSION TROUBLESHOOTING (CONT)
MALFUNCTION
TEST OR INSPECTION
CORRECTIVE ACTION
4. LOSS OF POWER (Cont).
Step 3. (Cont).
If not already connected, connect inlet and outlet hoses to
flowmeter. Put flowmeter in cab.
Open flowmeter PRESSURE VALVE completely.
Set flowmeter ON-OFF switch to ON position.
Set flowmeter FLOW switch to FLOW position.
Set flowmeter RANGE switch to HI position.
Start engine and operate at idle speed. If CONV TEMP gage pointer is
not approximately 1/2 inch from bottom of gage:
Be sure parking brake valve knob is pushed in.
Press brake treadle and valve and move transmission control lever
to H position.
Increase engine speed to full throttle and hold for 30 seconds.
Set transmission control lever to N position and operate engine at
idle speed for ten seconds.
Repeat the above until CONV TEMP gage needle is approximately 1/2
inch from bottom of gage.
Increase engine speed to 2000 rpm. Be sure transmission control
lever is in N position.
Flowmeter should indicate at least 18.5 gallons per minute.
Turn off engine.
If flow is less than 18.5 gallons per minute, charging pump is worn
or there is internal leakage in the transmission. Replace charging
pump (page 3-344) and repeat this step. If flow is still less than
18.5 gallons per minute, replace transmission (page 3-330).
5. HIGH TRANSMISSION OIL TEMPERATURE (CONV TEMP GAGE INDICATES EXCESSIVE TEMPERA-
TURE) .
Step 1. Check transmission oil level (refer to TM 5-3805-262-10). Add oil as
necessary.
Remove clutch pressure switch from transmission control valve (refer
to TM 5-3805-262-20).
Connect pressure gage hose to transmission control valve port from
which clutch pressure switch was removed. Be sure pressure gage hose
is long enough so that you can read gage from operators seat in
cab.
