TM 5-3805-262-342-8. TRANSMISSION TROUBLESHOOTING (CONT)MALFUNCTIONTEST OR INSPECTIONCORRECTIVE ACTION2. SLOW OR ERRATIC TRANSMISSION SHIFTING (Cont).Step 3. (Cont).Connect flowmeter outlet hose to oil cooler hose disconnected fromfitting. If not already connected, connect inlet and outlet hoses to flow-meter. Put flowmeter in cab.Open flowmeter PRESSURE VALVE completely.Set flowmeter ON-OFF switch to ON position.Set flowmeter FLOW switch to FLOW position.Set flowmeter RANGE switch to HI position.Start engine and operate at idle speed. If CONV TEMP gage pointer isnot approximately 1/2 inch from bottom of gage:Be sure parking brake valve knob is pushed in.Press brake treadle and valve and move transmission control leverto H position.Increase engine speed to full throttle and hold for 30 seconds.Set transmission control lever to N position and operate engine atidle speed for ten seconds.Repeat the above until CONV TEMP gage needle is approximately 1/2inch from bottom of gage.Increase engine speed to 2000 rpm. Be sure transmission controllever is in N position.Flowmeter should indicate at least 18.5 gallons per minute.Turn off engine.3. LOSS OF DRIVEIf flow is less than 18.5 gallons per minute, charging pump is wornor there is internal leakage in the transmission. Replace chargingpump (page 3-344) and repeat this step. If flow is still less than18.5 gallons per minute, replace transmission (page 3-330).IN ALL RANGES.Replace control valve (page 3-341).If problem is not corrected, refer to Malfunction 2 (page 2-85)above to perform transmission pressure checks.2-89
