TM 5-3805-262-34 4-5. STEERING CYLINDER ASSEMBLIES MAINTENANCE (CONT) REASSEMBLY (SHEET 2 OF 4) e. Assemble piston assembly (17 thru 20) as follows: (1) Install new piston ring (19) in center groove of piston (20). (2) Lubricate new piston seal (18) using clean lubricating oil. (3) Install piston seal (18) over piston ring (19) on piston (20). (4) Install two new wear rings (17) in grooves on outside edges of piston (20). f. Assemble gland assembly (8 thru 16) as follows: (1) Install bushing (15) in gland (16). (2) Install new wiper (13) with lips of wiper toward large end of gland (16). (3) Install plug (12) in gland (16) if removed. (4) Install new seals (11 and 10), lips towards small end of gland (16). Seat seals using wood or plastic blunt tool l NOTE In following step, if backup ring (9) is not flat on both sides, curved side must face O-ring (8) when installed. (5) Install new backup ring (9) and new O-ring (8) in gland (16) as shown. In following step, place clean cloth between support stand and rod (7) to prevent damaging rod. g. Put rod (7) eye in vise with support stand under rod. 4-246
