2-11. SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM TROUBLESHOOTING
MALFUNCTION
TEST OR INSPECTION
CORRECTIVE ACTION
1. BRAKE CALIPER PISTON STICKING.
Disassemble brake caliper (page 3-426).
Check pistons for scoring, pitting, or other damage.
a. Use fine abrasive cloth to remove scoring or pitting. Replace
pistons if scoring or pitting cannot be removed.
b.
If pistons are okay, check piston bores in body for scoring or
pitting. Use fine abrasive cloth to make piston bores smooth and
round. If this can-t be done, replace brake caliper.
2. BRAKE CALIPER LEAKING BRAKE FLUID.
Disassemble brake caliper (page 3-426).
Check wipers, piston rings, and O-rings for wear or damage.
a. Replace wipers, piston rings, and O-rings if damaged
3-429) .
b. If wipers, piston rings, and O-rings are okay, check
plugs, piston caps, and plugs for damage. Replace as
(page 3-429).
3. BRAKE DISK SCORED OR GROOVED.
Replace brake disk (page 3-366 or 3-393).
