SLOW OR HARD STEERING.Step 1.Remove steering wheel(refer to separate TM5-3805-262-20) .Remove two screws andslide cover with turn sig-nal attached from steeringcolumn and transmissioncontrol lever mountingbracket.Position cover out ofthe way.Inspect steering columnsupport bearing for bind-ing or damage.a. Replace support bear-ing if binding or dam-aged (page 3-510).b. If support bearing is not binding or damaged, go to step 2 be-low.Step 2.Test flow control valve as described in page 3-571.Pressure indication should be 2400 to 2600 psi.a. If pressure indication is not 2400 to 2600 psi, remove and re-pair flow control valve (page 3-566).b.If pressure indication is okay, go to step 3 below.Step 3.Perform hydraulic pump steering section test no. 1 (page 3-500).a. If flow recorded in above test is less than 23 gallons per mi-nute, check hydraulic filters and hoses, lines, and fittings be-tween hydraulic pump and reservoir for an air leak. If hydraulicfilters and hoses, lines, and fittings are okay, hydraulic pumpis worn; remove and replace hydraulic pump (page 3-612).b. If flow recorded in above test is more than 23 gallons per mi-nute, hydraulic filters and hoses, lines, and fittings betweenhydraulic pump and reservoir are okay.2-115
