(8) Engine Stall Speed Tests (Cent).
(j) Torque converter stall test:

Start engine and operate at idle speed.

Release parking brake by pushing parking brake valve knob inward.

Put transmission control lever in H position.

Press and hold down brake treadle and valve pedal for remainder of
test.

Press accelerator pedal fully.

Tell first assistant to press
tachometer against engine
tachometer drive shaft and
take constant reading of en-
gine speed.

Tell second assistant to watch
thermometer of temperature
probe installed in transmis-
sion elbow.

When transmission temperature
reaches 200 degrees F, tell
first assistant to record en-
gine speed as indicated by ta-
chometer. Engine speed should
be 2000 to 2100 rpm using
number 2 Diesel fuel or 1900
to 2000 rpm using number 1
Diesel fuel.
NOTE
Tachometer drive shaft operates at half engine speed. Double tachometer
indication to obtain engine rpm.

Release accelerator pedal and place transmission control lever in N
position. Allow engine to operate at idle speed for three minutes then
turn off engine and apply parking brake by pulling parking brake valve
knob outward.
