3-1. ENGINE MAINTENANCE (CONT)
d. Cylinder Block.
This task covers cylinder block inspection and replacement of
expansion plug and tachometer drive. Cylinder block inspection and expansion plug
replacement are covered in paragraph (l); refer to paragraph (2) (page 3-42) for re-
placement of tachometer drive.
(1) Cylinder Block Inspection.
TOOLS: No. 1 Common Organizational Maintenance Tool Kit
Safety glasses
Hand hammer, 16 ounces
Screw threading set
Drive pin punch, 1/8 inch point
Heavy gloves
Ear plugs/protectors
MATERIALS/PARTS: Clean cloths (Appendix C, item 1)
Non-hardening sealant (Appendix C, item 10)

(a) Clean exterior of cylinder block using live steam.
Compressed air used for cleaning purposes will not exceed 30 psi. Use
only with effective chip guarding and personal protective equipment
(goggles/shield, gloves, etc). Failure to do so could cause serious
injury to eyes and possible blindness. If you hurt your eyes or if a
foreign object is blown into your eyes,
seek medical attention
immediately.
(b) Dry exterior of cylinder block using compressed air.
