Using micrometer, measure outside diameter of rocker arm shafts (37).
Replace rocker arm shaft (37) if bent, scored, or outside diameter worn
to less than 0.860 inch.
Using micrometer and bore gage, measure inside diameter of rocker arms
(23, 27, and 33). Replace rocker arm if cracked, threads damaged, or
inside diameter worn to more than 0.8755 inch.
Use spring gage to measure force required to compress springs (32) to
1.562 inches. Replace spring (32) if required force is not 8.5 to 11.5
pounds.
Put push rod (19) on flat surface and roll over surface. Rod should roll
smoothly indicating it is not bent. Repeat for remaining push rods.
NOTE
Replace an item if inspection indicates need for replacement.
Inspect breather tube (7) for cuts, cracks, and deterioration.
Check if decal (15) is illegible, missing, or damaged.
Inspect all other parts for cracks, distortion, bent condition, or thread
damage.
