TM 5-3805-262-34INSTALLATION (SHEET 1 OF 3)(1)(2)(3)(4)(5)(6)(7)(8)Straighten and remove wires securing valve lifters in raised position.Apply retaining compound to threads at cylinder head end of studs (38).Install studs (38) in cylinder heads and tighten to 40 to 45 lb-ft.Install push rods (19) and position straps (20).Position rocker arm assemblies (21 thru 37) on cylinder heads.Apply retaining compound to threads at cylinder head end of studs (17).Install washers (18), studs(17), and nuts (16). Tightennuts (16) and studs (17) to 40to 45 lb-ft.Measure end clearance at bothends of each rocker arm shaftusing thickness gage. If endclearance is not 0.010 to 0.030inch, add or remove washers(22) until specified end clear-ance is obtained.Cold setting valve tappetclearance must be adjustedwhenever rocker arms or push rodshave been removed. Do not startengine until cold setting tappetclearance adjustment has beenperformed.(9) Adjust valve tappet clearance, cold setting (page 3-6).(10) Start engine, watch rocker arms (23, 27, and 33) to be sure they are re-ceiving oil, and shut down engine.3-71
