3-5. STARTER REPAIR (CONT)
REASSEMBLY (SHEET 4 OF 6)
u. Apply small amount of clean engine
oil to armature (27) shaft splines.

Carefully push armature partly into
field frame.
Position frame assembly (21) on end
of armature (27).
Push brushes (17) into contact with
commutator on armature (27).
Push frame assembly (21) against
field frame, alinement marks
alined.
Install four lock washers (15) and
capscrews (14).
z.
Connect field leads to plate
assembly (20). Install two
screws (13) to secure.
aa. Install two gaskets (12) and plugs
ab. Slide solenoid (10) onto plunger.
(11).
ac. Install four capscrews (9) to secure solenoid
(10) to field frame.
ad. Position connector (8) on terminal stud and
swing onto solenoid (10) MTR terminal.
ae. Install washer (7) and nut (6). Tighten nut (6)
to 20 to 25 lb-ft.
af. Position bushing (5) and washer (4) on frame
assembly (21). Secure using one lock washer (2)
and nut (1).
ag. Connect one end of electrical lead (3) to frame
assembly (21) terminal.
ah. Install second lock washer (2) and nut (1). Do
not tighten nut.
