CLEANING
Dry cleaning solvent P-D-680 used to clean parts is toxic and flammable.
Wear protective goggles and gloves and use only in a well ventilated
area. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothes and dont breathe
vapors. Do not use near open flame or excessive heat and dont smoke
when using it. Failure to do so could cause serious injury. If you be-
come dizzy while using cleaning solvent, get fresh air and medical
attention immediately. If contact with skin or clothes is made, flush
with large amounts of water. If contact with eyes is made, wash eyes
with water and get medical aid immediately.
Compressed air used for cleaning purposes will not exceed 30 psi. Use
only with effective chip guarding and personal protective equipment
(goggles/shield, gloves, etc). Failure to do so could cause serious
injury to eyes and possible blindness.
If you hurt your eyes or if a
foreign object is blown into your eyes, seek medical attention
immediately.
(1)
Clean cone and rollers (21 and 22) by immersing in cleaning solvent
P-D-680 and slowly moving up and down. Remove from cleaning solvent and
strike larger side of cone against a block of wood to dislodge solidified
particles of lubricant. Immerse again in cleaning solvent and repeat
above until clean. Dry using compressed air. Direct air stream across
cone and rollers to avoid spinning. Dont spin cone and rollers when dry-
ing; rotate slowly by hand to facilitate drying. After drying, lubricate
using clean hypoid gear oil. Keep cone and rollers in a clean area.
(2) Clean remaining parts using cleaning solvent P-D-680 and dry using clean
cloths. Clean planetary gear spider (3) and wheel hub (31) mating sur-
faces using scratch wire brush and cleaning solvent P-D-680. Be sure that
all gasket residue is removed from mating surfaces of these parts.
