RearAxlePlanetaryAssemblies(Cont).CLEANINGDry cleaning solvent P-D-680 used to clean parts is toxic and flammable.Wear protective goggles and gloves and use only in a well ventilatedarea. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothes and don’t breathevapors. Do not use near open flame or excessive heat and don’t smokewhen using it. Failure to do so could cause serious injury. If you be-come dizzy while using cleaning solvent, get fresh air and medicalattention immediately. If contact with skin or clothes is made, flushwith large amounts of water. If contact with eyes is made, wash eyeswith water and get medical aid immediately.Compressed air used for cleaning purposes will not exceed 30 psi. Useonly with effective chip guarding and personal protective equipment(goggles/shield, gloves, etc). Failure to do so could cause seriousinjury to eyes and possible blindness.If you hurt your eyes or if aforeign object is blown into your eyes, seek medical attentionimmediately.(1)Clean cone and rollers (21 and 22) by immersing in cleaning solventP-D-680 and slowly moving up and down. Remove from cleaning solvent andstrike larger side of cone against a block of wood to dislodge solidifiedparticles of lubricant. Immerse again in cleaning solvent and repeatabove until clean. Dry using compressed air. Direct air stream acrosscone and rollers to avoid spinning. Don’t spin cone and rollers when dry-ing; rotate slowly by hand to facilitate drying. After drying, lubricateusing clean hypoid gear oil. Keep cone and rollers in a clean area.(2) Clean remaining parts using cleaning solvent P-D-680 and dry using cleancloths. Clean planetary gear spider (3) and wheel hub (31) mating sur-faces using scratch wire brush and cleaning solvent P-D-680. Be sure thatall gasket residue is removed from mating surfaces of these parts.3-402
