INSPECION AND REPAIR (SHEET 2 OF 2)
Connect multimeter between termi-
nal stud (43) and housing (48) as
shown. If multimeter pointer
moves, there is a short circuit
between housing (48) and field
coil (47). Replace terminal
assembly (38 thru 46).
Connect multimeter between two
terminal studs (43). If multi-
meter pointer moves, there is a
short circuit between ground
terminal stud and field coil
(47). Replace ground terminal
assembly (38 thru 46).
Check that bearings (17 and 18) turn freely. If bearings do not turn
freely, replace.
Check fan (19) for bent fins, distortion, cracks, or other damage. Re-
place if any of these conditions are seen.
Check brush plate (32) for damage to brush and spring holders, cracks,
deformation, or other damage. Replace as necessary.
Check drive end plate (16), cover band (24), and commutator end cover
(37) for cracks, breaks, distortion, or other damage. Replace parts as
necessary.
Inspect remaining parts for cracks, breaks, distortion, deformation, or
thread damage. Replace parts as necessary.
Test armature (21) (page 3-549).
