3-16. STEERING CYLINDER ASSEMBLIES MAINTENANCE
a. Testing. This procedure covers testing of steering cylinder assemblies.
Perform this test whenever steering problems are encountered.
TOOLS: No. 1 Common Organizational Maintenance Tool Kit
Fixed open end wrench set
MATERIALS/PARTS: Pipe plug, 7/8-14
PERSONNEL REQUIRED: Two Construction Equipment Mechanics MOS 62B
NOTE
PRELIMINARY PROCEDURE: Loader turned all the way to right.
TESTING (SHEET 1 OR 2)
(1) Disconnect hose from elbow at rod end of left steering cylinder assembly.
(2)
Install plug in hose.
(3) Start engine and operate at full throttle.
Before performing following step, warn personnel to stay away from sides
of loader between front and rear chassis. Failure to do so will cause
death or serious injury to those personnel due to chassis pivoting and
crushing them. If personnel are injured, obtain medical assistance
immediately.
(4) Turn steering wheel to right and hold for a full right turn. Tell assis-
tant to check for hydraulic oil leakage from elbow at rod end of left
steering cylinder assembly.
(5)
Turn off engine.
