3-16. STEERING CYLINDER ASSEMBLIES MAINTENANCE (CONT)
b. Replacement (Cont).
INSTALLATION (SHEET 1 OF 2)
Steering cylinder assembly weighs approximately 42 pounds. Be careful
when performing following step not to let cylinder assembly fall. Fail-
ure to do so could cause cylinder assembly to fall and crush your foot.
If you are injured by falling equipment, obtain medical aid immediately.

With an assistant, put steering cylinder assembly in position. Do this by
installing cylinder assembly, cylinder end first, from rear of front
chassis as far as you can into front chassis. Rest cylinder assembly on
front chassis while assistant supports rod end. From front of loader,
guide cylinder eye into welded brackets.
Check that holes in cylinder eye are
alined with holes in welded bracket.
Position pin with capscrew hole in
pin alined with associated hole in
top welded bracket. Drive pin into

position and install capscrew.
Install and tighten lock nut on cap-
screw. Tighten lock nut securely.
Repeat steps (1) through (3) above to
position remaining steering cylinder
assembly in loader.
Connect hoses, lines, and fittings to
steering cylinder assemblies (refer
to TM 5-3805-262-20).
(6) Tell assistant to start and operate engine at low idle speed.
Be careful when performing following step not to use your fingers to
check alinement of holes. To do so could cause you to lose a finger.
(7) While assistant turns steering wheel to slowly extend rod end of one
cylinder assembly, guide rod eye until it is aligned with holes in rear
chassis. Be careful not to get your fingers caught between rod eye and
chassis brackets.
