Inspect control valve body for cracks, breaks, or other damage. Inspect
spool bore for grooves, deep scratches, or other visible wear. Replace
entire control valve if control valve body requires replacement.
Inspect spool (30) for grooves, deep scratches, or other visible wear.
Replace if necessary.
Check that free length of spring (22) is 4.25 inches. Use spring gage and
check that force required to compress spring to 2.250 inches is 27 to 33
pounds. Check that force required to compress spring to 1.375 inches is
38 to 48 pounds. Replace spring if free length or force required to com-
press it is not as specified above.
Check that free length of spring (28) is 1.47 inches. Use spring gage and
check that force required to compress spring to 1.250 inches is 45 to 55
pounds. Check that force required to compress spring to 1.125 inches is
70.2 to 85.8 pounds. Replace spring if free length or force required to
compress it is not as specified above.
Check that free length of spring (34) is 1.86 inches. Use spring gage and
check that force required to compress spring to 1.250 inches is 1.35 to
1.65 pounds. Check that force required to compress spring to 1 inch is
1.92 to 2.32 pounds. Replace spring if free length or force required to
compress it is not as specified above.
Connect multimeter across coil (17) wires. Check that multimeter indi-
cates 45 to 65 ohms resistance. Replace coil if multimeter indication is
not correct. Connect multimeter across one wire of coil and metal housing
of coil. Check that multimeter indicates infinity (open circuit). If mul-
timeter indication is not correct , replace coil. Connect multimeter lead
to other wire of coil. Multimeter must indicate infinity (open circuit).
Replace coil if multimeter indication is incorrect.
Inspect poppets (29 and 35) for cracks, breaks, or chipping. Replace if
any of these conditions are seen. Remove burrs using 600 grit abrasive
cloth. Check that poppets move freely without binding in their respective
bores in spool (30). If poppets do not move freely, replace.
Inspect remaining parts for cracks, breaks, deformation, distortion, or
damaged or stripped threads.
