d. Clam Spool.
This task covers disassembly, cleaning, inspection, and reassem-
bly of the clam spool.
TOOLS: No. 1 Common Organizational Maintenance Tool Kit
Retaining ring pliers
Safety glasses
Fixed open end wrench set
Vise jaw caps
Vise
Spring compression tool (fabricate as shown in step (9) below)
Spring gage
Machinists steel rule
Seal assembly tool (FSCM 45225 PN CAS-1463)
MATERIALS/PARTS : Clean cloths (Appendix C, item 1)
Cleaning solvent P-D-680 (Appendix C, item 2)
Lubricating oil (Appendix C, item 15)
O-rings (FSCM 10988 PN N6577)

Dry cleaning solvent P-D-680 used to clean parts is toxic and flammable.
Wear protective goggles and gloves and use only in a well ventilated
area. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothes and don-t breathe
vapors. Do not use near open flame or excessive heat and dont smoke
when using it. Failure to do so could cause serious injury. If you be-
come dizzy while using cleaning solvent, get fresh air and medical
attention immediately. If contact with skin or clothes is made, flush
with large amounts of water. If contact with eyes is made, wash eyes
with water and get medical aid immediately.

Clean all dirt and grease from control valve assembly using cleaning sol-
vent P-D-680. Dry using clean cloths.
Put control valve assembly on clean work bench.
Using seal assembly tool, loosen and remove seal assembly (1) as shown.
Remove retainer (2) and O-ring (3) from seal assembly (l). Discard
O-ring.
Remove one washer (4) and O-ring (5). Discard O-ring.
